Martha A. (Banks) Higgins

Martha A. Higgins, 77, of Mt. Carmel, passed away, Saturday, November 7, 2015 at her residence surrounded by family.

She was born on Wednesday, May 18, 1938 the daughter of Clarence and Jessie (Baxley) Banks in Mt. Carmel.

She married Ray Higgins Wednesday, August 14, 1957 in Mt. Carmel. He preceded her in death on July 18, 1995.

Martha was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Mt. Carmel. She worked as a seamstress at Mt. Carmel Apparel. She enjoyed being with family; liked nothing better than spending time with children and grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memories is her daughters; Ann (Tony) Guard of Alvin, TX, Kim (Tony) Spencer of Fairfield, IL, and Janet (Alan) Clem of Mt. Carmel; fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Ray; five brothers and four sisters.

Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, November 10, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Mt. Carmel.

Funeral Service will be Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Garner officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
