When you consider the philosophy of hospice and funeral service, it is clear why the continuum of care provided by our professional staff is a "natural extension" of hospice care. Our compassionate staff and hospice caregivers work closely together in order to meet the total needs of families. With greater understanding of each others care, areas of expertise and resources, hospice workers and our Remembrance Planner professionals work together to plan a course which makes for a more natural transition of care at the time of death and in caring for the survivors in the months following the death. We're Not Just Funeral Directors, We're Experts at Helping Hearts Heal. LEARN MORE: 618-262-4411

Short-Cunningham Funeral Home

Celebrates 100th Year Anniversary

Of Unparalleled Service

2016 represents the 100th anniversary of one of the oldest continuous prominent businesses in Mt. Carmel-Short-Cunningham Funeral Homes.

They join the elite group of companies that have withstood the test of time due to their fair dealings, faithfulness to all people, delivering an exceptional caring and compassionate experience to grieving families, devotion to helping families honor their loved ones and a hardworking staff.  It is through this dedication that their legacy has been built.

Short Funeral Home was established in 1916 by Roy D. Short.  Cunningham Funeral Home was established in 1948 by Robert D., Sr and Mennidean Cunningham.  The two funeral homes merged in 1972 and the firm was co-owned by Jackie Short, Bill Stanfield and Robert Cunningham, Sr.  The firm incorporated in 1985 with owners Robert D. Cunningham, Jr., Larry D. Hodgson and Craig Racster.  In December 2003, Larry and Karin Hodgson became the sole owners of the business by purchasing the business from Robert D. and Mary Cunningham, Jr.  Short-Cunningham Funeral Homes, PC owns and operates the two funeral homes along with Highland Memorial Cemetery.

Short-Cunningham Funeral Homes has grown into a full service facility, providing an array of personalized funeral services, cremation, pre-need planning, memorials, American made merchandise (caskets and vaults), cemetery spaces, state of the art mausoleum, and, bronze,  marble and granite monuments.

Larry, Karin, their son and daughter-in-law, Geoff and Natalie, and loyal staff would like to express our sincere appreciation to those families we have served throughout the century for placing their trust in the Short-Cunningham family.  We look forward to continuing to meet families’ needs and exceed their expectations for years to come.
