Charles Jackson Ulm

January 28, 2016

Charles Jackson Ulm, 91, of Mt. Carmel, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016, at his residence surrounded by family.

He was born Saturday, March 1, 1924, the first of four children, to Leo and Esther (Wright) Ulm in Wabash County, Illinois.  Charles graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1942, a member of the National Honor Society.

Charles served in the U.S. Army in France and Germany during World War II and was awarded Bronze Star Medal.  While in the service he married Cleo Wetzel, from Richland County, in El Paso, Texas.  They spent all of their 70 years of marriage in Wabash County.

He retired from Snap-On Tools after thirty years of service and was given a gold embossed Bible by his fellow workers.  As a member of the Bellmont Christian Church, he taught the Adult Bible Class for a number of years and also served as church Treasurer.  After retirement, he did odd jobs (free of charge) for elderly people as long as he was able.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Cleo, of 70 years; son, Kelvin Ulm of Mt. Carmel; sisters, Leona Morrel of Moweaqua, IL and Virginia (Bill) Martin of Sierra Vista, AZ; and brother, Clyde (Phyllis) Ulm of Arkansas.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Leo and Esther.
