Barbara Nell Reed

Barbara Nell Reed, 73, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, peacefully passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville, Illinois.

            She was born Friday, October 9, 1942, in Alton, Illinois, the daughter of James and Katherine (Davis) Todd.  On February 21, 1959, she married Larry T. Reed in Shawneetown, Illinois.  Barbara worked for Health South in Evansville, Indiana, as a dietetic aid.  She was a very caring and compassionate person and would do anything she could to help someone.  Barbara also loved to travel.

            Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 57 years, Larry; children, Michelle Johnson of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, and Kevin Reed of New Harmony, Indiana; grandchildren, Kayleigh Reed, Kevin Reed, Jr. and Zoey Johnson; greatgrandchildren, Alexia Reed, Makenya Drake and Landyn Reed; and four sisters, Carolyn Tolbert of Princeton, Indiana, Linda Stewart of Carmel, Indiana, Rebecca Williams and Diana Wright of Mt. Carmel, Illinois. 

            Preceding her in death was her father, James Todd; stepfather and mother, James F. and Katherine Phillips; son, Kenneth E. Reed; stepbrother, James F. Phillips, Jr.; and stepsister, Louise Goldman.

            Family and friends may call Thursday, April 21, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois. 

            Funeral services will be held Friday, April 22, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. also in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home with burial in Highland Memorial Cemetery.

            Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to United Methodist Village.  Envelopes will be provided at Short Funeral Home.
