Barbara J (Garrett) Dardeen

Barbara J. Dardeen, 73, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2016, at her residence.

            She was born Saturday, July 31, 1943, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of James and Lola (Hughes) Garrett.  Lola passed when Barbara was a little girl.  James married Zula, and she raised Barbara as her own.  On November 19, 1960, Barbara married Harold Ray Dardeen, Sr. in Mt. Carmel.

            Barbara was a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle.  For many years she worked as a waitress.  She and Harold enjoyed traveling and going to yard sales.  Every morning Barbara served coffee at her home for friends and relatives that stopped in to socialize.  Most precious to Barbara was time spent with her family and grandchildren. 

            Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Harold, of 55 years; children, Roger and his wife Debbie Dardeen, and Harold R. “Hot Dog” and his wife Karen Dardeen, both of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; a sister, Mary Ann Krug; nine grandchildren; thirteen greatgrandchildren; and a special friend Nancy Garrett.

            Preceding her in death were her parents James and Lola, stepmother Zula, son Robert R. Dardeen, brother James D. Garrett, sisters Blanche Garrett and Maudie Marie Elzy, and an infant son. 

            Friends and family may call for a visitation on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

            Barbara’s funeral service will be Thursday, October 6, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. also in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home.  Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.
