Doris Y (Keck) Knowles

Doris Y. (Keck) Knowles, 89, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2017, peacefully at her residence.

She was born Tuesday, December 20, 1927, in Clay County, Illinois, the daughter of Edgar W. and Marguerite (Patridge) Keck. She married Leonard C. Knowles Sunday, December 5, 1948 in Sailor Springs, Illinois. He preceded her in death August 5, 2016.

Doris was a member of Evangelical United Methodist Church in Mt. Carmel, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Mt. Carmel Woman's Club, Reviewers Matinee, Mt. Carmel Ladies Golf Association and Eastern Star. Her favorite pass times were playing Bridge with the Wednesday afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club and playing golf with the Ladies Golf League.

Left to cherish her memories are her brother and sister-in-law, James E. and Carolyn Keck of Swansea, IL; nieces, Kimberly Redfern of Marianna FL, Tammy Schroyer, of Decatur, IL, Mandy Keck of Millstadt, IL; and nephew, Bill Keck of Jonesboro, IL; and several great nieces and nephews..

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband of 67 years, Leonard; and brother, Charles R. (Reta) Keck, Orange City, FL.

Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, January 20, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N Mulberry St., Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Doris’ funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2017 with burial to follow at Floral Garden of Memories, Flora, Illinois.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Evangelical United Methodist Church, North Cherry Road, Mt. Carmel, IL. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
