Wilma Jane Farrar

December 2, 1926 ~ January 25, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old


       Wilma Jane Farrar passed away on January 25th, 2017 at Hoosier Village Retirement Center in Zionsville, Indiana.  She moved from Mt. Carmel, Illinois, in 2012 to be near her daughters.

       She was born on December 2, 1926 in Albion, Illinois.  Wilma was the daughter of Nelson and Anna (Keeling) Hortin.  She married Ray H. Farrar on November 2, 1947 and he preceded her in death on October 8th of 2006.  Also preceding her in death were sisters Thelma Steckler and Ava Waltz and granddaughter Ashley Wright. 

        She graduated from Albion Community High School class of 1943. Wilma worked as a secretary at Meissner Manufacturing Co. and also at TW George Oil Co. She graduated from Wabash Valley College with an associate degree in 1977. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for over 60 years and a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ where she served as a Sunday school teacher and a deaconess.  Wilma was a teacher at the church daycare center and a board member from 1970 until it closed in 2002. She was a 4-H Leader for 7 years with her sister Thelma.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband and had a special affection for England and Harlaxton castle. 

        Left to cherish Wilma’s memory is her two daughters Linda Wilcox (husband Dan and daughters Erin Krebs and Alison Glorioso (husband Chris and daughter Madeline) and son Justin Krebs (wife Mandy and sons Harrison and Conrad) and Shawn Wilcox, and daughter Janet Wright (husband Bill and daughters Erica and Abigail) and son John Farrar (wife Nancy). Wilma has many nieces and nephews.

          Funeral services will be held at the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, 8th and Market Streets, Mt. Carmel, Illinois on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

            Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ.  Envelopes will be available at the church or at Short Funeral Home.
