Harrell E. Bratton, 96, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away peacefully Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Oakview Heights Continuous Care and Rehab surrounded by his loving family.
Harrell was born Monday, November 15, 1920 in Christopher, Illinois the son of Herbert and Millie (Leathers) Bratton. He married Elizabeth K. Whitsitt April 19, 1941 in St. Louis, MO. She preceded him in death December 16, 2000.
He was an active member of Heartland Worship Center. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the VFW. He was the owner operator of the Bellmont Cash Store. Harrell’s favorite pastime above all was spending time with his family and friends. He could make conversation with anyone, whether selling an item at the store or entertaining his grand, great or great-great grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughter Linda (Kenneth) Moody, daughter-in-law Kathleen Bratton; grandchildren, Sherri (Don) Speth, Kristi (Jeff) Perry, Michael (Brenda) Bratton, David Bratton; great grandchildren Haley (Drake) Kelsey, Natalie Perry, Lexi Speth, Karina Speth, Braden Bratton, Tyler Bratton; great great grandchildren, Kaysen, Kyntlee and Kash Kelsey; and sister, Leota Blazier of Alton, IL.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife of 59 years, Elizabeth; son H. Dean Bratton; and sisters Fern Winters and Veirda Stokes.
Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, January 31, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, February 1, 2017 starting 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at Heartland Worship Center. Funeral Service for Mr. Bratton will be at 1:00 p.m. February 1, 2017 at Heartland Worship Center, 212 W 2nd Street, Mt. Carmel. Burial will follow at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi, Illinois.
