Walter Courtney, Jr. Obituary

Walter R. Courtney, Jr., 85, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, March 18, 2019, at his home.

 

He was born July 30, 1933, in Independence, Missouri, the son of Walter R. and Ina Irene (Zion) Courtney, Sr.  On August 26, 1961, he married Marilyn Rene Bender in Miami, Oklahoma.

 

Walter proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.  He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Mt. Carmel.  Walter worked as a truck driver.  He was also a body man and auctioneer.   Walter took much pride in his work.  He loved family vacations, children, animals, fishing and wrestling with his boys.

 

Walter is survived by his wife, Marilyn of 57 years; children, Doug Courtney and wife Melissa of Peru, Indiana, Jim Farley and wife Jan of Kokomo, Indiana, Dave Courtney and wife Jamie of Marion, Ohio, Dale Courtney and wife Linda of Goose Creek, South Carolina, Mike Farley and wife Michelle of Kokomo, Indiana, and, Danny Courtney and wife Debbie of Clinton Township, Michigan; 19 grandchildren, Amber New, Jason Courtney, Katrina Bray, D.J. Gillis, Angie White, Brandon White, Josh Farley, Chris Simons, Lauren Farley, Amy Williams, Kylie Jackson, Stevie Jackson, Jennifer Meilstrup-Eady,  Dustin Courtney, Katie McCury, Ryan McCurry, Jamie Bathurst, Brandon Courtney and Hannah Courtney;  37 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Watkins of Independence, Missouri.

 

He was preceded in death by a son, Chuck White and a brother, Richard Courtney.

 

A family service will be held at a later date.
