Stanley Berry Obituary

Stanley William “Bill” Berry, 80, Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, September 30, 2024, at Deaconess Gateway Heart Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois, with Pastor Jim Bisch officiating. A burial will be held at Rosehill Cemetery, 901 Plum Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois, with military honors by Mt. Carmel Honor Guard.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Wabash County Museum Foundation, Wabash Valley Arts Council, or VFW Post 4276 in Bill's memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister Roxanna Seybold and husband Calvin; former wife, Marilyn Putman Berry; Calina Seybold, Clint (Wendy) Seybold, Celisa Seybold, John (Jan) Berry, and Bennie.

Bill was born on July 29, 1944, to Harry Lee and Nelle (Brown) Berry in Wabash County, Illinois, in the family home that his grandfather built. He graduated from Mt. Carmel High School (1962) and Northwestern University (1966). In August 1967, he enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Army. Bill served in Vietnam as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps.

After Bill returned from the service, he became a professional actor, photographer, and artist. Upon returning to Mt. Carmel, he volunteered at the Wabash County Museum, served on the Honor Guard, and was in theater productions at Wabash Valley College Arts Council. He was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, American Legion Post 423, and VFW Post 4276.

Preceding Bill in death were his parents, aunts, and uncles.
