Ronald Edwin Couch

Ronald Edwin Couch, 81, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away August 6, 2019, at Wabash General Hospital.

He was born December 10, 1937, in Friendsville, Illinois, the son of Byron Edwin and Irene Matilda (Price) Couch.  Ron served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 as Specialist E5, spending most of his time stationed in Hawaii.  On November 27, 1965, Ron married D. Kay Armstrong at the E.U.M. Church in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Ron was a member of E.U.M. Church in Mt. Carmel and looked forward to meeting every week with the men’s group.  He was an insurance agent with State Farm, enjoying working with and helping his customers.  In 1999, Ron retired after more than 20 years with the agency.  He began his career in banking at The Bank of Mt. Carmel and later First National Bank of Allendale.  Ron was a former member of Mt. Carmel Elks and Mt. Carmel Jaycees.

Ron treasured traveling with his wife Kay.  They enjoyed visiting Bermuda and Hawaii, and their love of family kept them busy traveling to Wisconsin, Arizona, Tennessee and Iowa.   Ron also enjoyed western movies, hunting quail and fishing trips to Canada with friends.  More than anything, Ron cherished the time spent with family.  He deeply loved his wife, sons, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.  He was so proud of all of them.  His faith set an example for everyone he met.  We are sad today because he is gone from our presence, but we are also celebrating knowing that today he worships at the feet of Jesus!

Left to cherish Ron’s memory is his wife of 53 years, Kay; children, Brian Couch and his wife Tonya of Hendersonville, Tennessee and Brent Couch of Gilbert, Arizona; three grandchildren, Maleah, Joshua and Nathan; and a brother Joe R. (Debbie) Couch of Albion, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. 

Ron was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 10, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Friends may call for a visitation Friday, August 9, 2019, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home.

Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
