Obituary

Robert Gail Hughes 71, of Mt. Carmel passed away Thursday, June 24, 2021 at his residence.

 

Gail was born February 22, 1950, in Princeton, IN, the son of Robert L. and Joan (Peach) Hughes. He married Martha Tennes on June 10, 1977 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel.

 

He graduated Mt. Carmel High School and attended two years of college. He worked as a machinist at Pacific for thirty-two years. He loved fishing and mushroom hunting, all outdoors activities. Gail had a passion for cars, motorcycle riding and rock music. He loved being around his grandchildren; they called him Papa Gail.

 

Gail is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Martha; children Brad Hughes of Mt. Carmel, Laura Gray and husband Wes of Evansville, Brooke Tate and husband Marc of Evansville; grandchildren Taylor and Zachary Gray, Chase and Cole Tate, and Lane Hughes; brother Kenny Hughes and sister Becky Hughes.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Family and friends are invited for Visitation Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in the at Short Funeral Home with Funeral Service following at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.

 

Donations in Gail’s memory can be made to American Stroke Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
