Robert E Braden

Robert E. Braden, 89, of Carmi, Illinois, formerly of Mt. Carmel, passed away Monday, January 2, 2023, at Wabash Christian Village at Carmi, Illinois.

Bob was born March 24, 1933, in Charleston, Illinois, the son of Edward and Sylvia (Enlow) Braden.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. On June 20, 1956, Bob married Martha J. Clark in Charleston, Illinois. She preceded him in death July 8, 2021. Bob worked as a Mechanic. He was a sports enthusiast. Bob especially loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals, Indy and NASCAR car racing and horse racing.  

Left to cherish Bob’s memory is a son, Dennis Braden, sister, Sylvia Montgomery and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and Bonnie Greco.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Martha, of 65 years; and two brothers, Jake Braden, and Carl Cahoon; and four sisters, Freda Warren, Jo Cougill, and twin sisters Viola Waggle and Lola Bell Garner “Pug”.

A visitation for Bob will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2023, from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.  The funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m.  Bob will be laid to rest beside his wife at Highland Memorial Cemetery, 1827 College Drive, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.
