Robert Baumgart, 87, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away May 21, 2023, at the Villas of Holly Brook.
Services will be held Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, with Father Robert officiating. A burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery following service.
Visitation will be Friday, May 26, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home.
Robert was born to the late Raymond and Louise (Blevins) Baumgart on December 12, 1935. He was married to Phyllis Drone on October 8, 1957, in Ridgway, Illinois. To this union four children were born: Mike (Sheila) Baumgart, Chris (Cindy) Baumgart, Teresa Urfer, and Cheri (Miller) Newton. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Luke (Jordan) Baumgart, Ashley Baumgart, Tricia Baumgart, Mariah Baumgart, Jennifer (Alex) Webb, Quincy Newton, and Nia Newton. Great-grandchildren are Ezekiel Robert Baumgart, Walker Robert Baumgart, and Elsie Ruth Baumgart. Preceding in death by his parents: Raymond and Louise, wife Phyllis, and sister Mary Ann Anderson.
He was a lifetime farmer and was a dairy farmer up until 1983. Robert had a love for all animals. In their younger years Robert and Phyllis enjoyed traveling, cruises, and snow skiing. They also loved spending their winters in Florida. Robert had a passion for Indian Artifacts, enjoyed yard sales, and was a lifetime collector. He was a lifelong member of the St. Mary’s Church and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. In Robert’s later years he enjoyed watching TV; his favorite shows were America’s Got Talent, American Pickers, and Pawn Stars.
Memorials can be made to Hope Pregnancy, St. Mary’s School, or the Wabash County Shelter Buddies. Envelopes will be available at the service.
