Raymond Haase Obituary

Raymond L. Haase, 86, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Linda E. White Hospice in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral Mass will be held Friday, July 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial following at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

A visitation will be Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home with Rosary at 3:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Roof Fund or Linda E. White Hospice. Envelopes will be available.

Raymond was born December 31, 1937, the son of Theodore and Theresa (Weber) Haase, in Gibson County, Indiana. He proudly served in the Indiana National Guard for seven years. Raymond married Doris Feller on January 8, 1966, in Evansville, Indiana. To this union two children were born, Karen (Scott) Ewing of Herrin, Illinois, and Carol (Timothy) Kemper of Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Chelsea Sheets and Zachary Kemper, two great grandchildren, Madison Sheets and Lydia Sheets, and a sister, Mary Berberich. Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers, George, Robert, and Johnny Haase.

Raymond was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, served on the church council, was an honorary life member of Knights of Columbus (69 years), a 4th degree member and two years as faithful navigator. In 1978, Raymond was voted Knight of the Year.

The family moved to Mt. Carmel in 1972 and Raymond pursued a farming career. He was a lifelong member of the Farm Bureau, serving on the board of directors for seven years and three years as president. In 1980, he won Ring Around National Corn Yield, in 1981, he was Ring Around Operation Weigh Out winner for corn, and in 1983, he was the Illinois State Winner of Ring Around Operation Weigh Out for soybeans.

Raymond enjoyed gardening, golfing, horseshoes, and country line dancing. For the past twenty years, Ray took his family on a Christmas vacation to the Caribbean. He dearly loved spending time with his family.
