Larry was born March 12, 1940, in Gibson County, Indiana, the eighth child of Joseph A. and Mary Jane (Loveless) Vickers. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1962-1964 and was stationed in Germany. Larry was a lifetime member of the VFW. On March 19, 1965, Larry married Evelyn Seaton at Grace Memorial Baptist Church in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.
He was a boilermaker by trade, enjoyed yardwork and for years was a brick layer with his son Tony. Larry was a huge Nascar fan and attended many races in his younger days. Bill Elliott, David Pearson, and Chase Elliott were some of his favorites. He also enjoyed going to drag car races with Tami and his son-in-law Larry. Larry was close with his siblings and Evelyn’s siblings. They spent a lot of time together and always pitched in to help one another. He was a talker and a storyteller. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, who called him “Grandpa Larry.”
Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Evelyn; children, Tami (Larry) Hyatt and Tony (Janis) Vickers of Mt. Carmel; grandchildren, Brayden and Lauren Vickers, Joshua (Roxanne) Hyatt, Andrea (Micheal) Dattilo, Ryan Hyatt and Denia Hyatt; three great grandchildren; and Logan Racster who Larry and Evelyn thought of as a son.
