Jean Yvonne (Smith) Mobley

Jean Yvonne Mobley, 97, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Friday, February 19, 2021, at Oakview Heights Continuous Care and Rehab. She was born on October 2, 1923, in rural Albion, Illinois, the daughter of Rollie H. and Frances J. (Judge) Smith.

She graduated from Browns High School in 1941. Her first husband, Kenneth Broster, Jr., was a combat veteran who was killed during WW II. On Sunday November 24, 1946, she married Robert “Buck” Mobley. He preceded her in death on December 13, 2014.

Jean loved her family, her church, and her music. She enjoyed journaling and writing poetry. She and “Buck” attended the same church, Community Church of God, for over sixty years. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and singing specials with her husband during church services.

 Doing crossword puzzles, playing scrabble, flower gardening, working outdoors or doing crafts were favorite pastimes. An excellent cook and hostess she made her home a welcoming destination for friends and family. Her joyful spirit was evident to all-she always had a song on her lips and in her heart.

Jean is survived by her sister, Barbara Smith; two sons, Steven Kent, and his wife Sandy Mobley of Indianapolis, IN and Mark L. and his wife Larenda Mobley of Mt. Carmel; five grandchildren, Matthew and his wife Trisha Mobley, Jenna and her husband Rick Templin, Micah and his wife Carla Mobley, Erin and her husband Jason Thompson, Andrea and her husband Dustin McKinley; thirteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by parents, husbands, and brother Robert R. Smith.

Visitation for Jean Mobley will be Wednesday February 24, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, at Community Church of God on College Drive in Mt. Carmel. The funeral Service for Jean will be at 12:00 noon, on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at the Community Church of God. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
