James Grimes Obituary

James “Jim” Leon Grimes, Sr., 87, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Wabash General Hospital with family by his side.

Jim was born September 25, 1934, in Glascow, Kentucky, the son of Cecil and Myrtie Blanche (Jackson) Grimes. He married Pearl Lavona Shutz on September 4, 1971, in Mt. Carmel. She survives.

Jim attended Full Gospel Tabernacle Church. He loved his church. He loved spending time with family. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. He retired from Snap-On Tools.

Those left to cherish Jim’s memory include his wife, Pearl, of fifty years; son James “Jim” Leon (Lindsey) Grimes, Jr., of Mt. Prospect, Illinois; step-children, Floyd Dale (Penny) Hargrave of McLeansboro, Illinois and Alex (Eric) Schmidt of Olney, Illinois; grandchildren Jackson and Brooklyn Grimes, Misty, Dale, Amanda, Andrew, Jake, Joe, Hunter; several great grandchildren; and sister Beulah Mason of Bloomington, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Jesse Grimes, and granddaughter Stacey Hargrave.

There will be a Private Funeral on November 23, 2021, in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home. There will be no public visitation. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery.

COVID-19 precautions, wearing of face coverings, social distancing and use of hand sanitizer is recommended. The family requests that all visitors wear masks.

His family requests that donations in Jim’s memory be given to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
