Doris Jean (Leipold) Deputy

Doris Jean (Leipold) Deputy, 93, of Mt. Carmel, IL passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at Wabash General Hospital in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Doris was born on August 21, 1932, in Wabash County, Illinois. She was the daughter of Jessie (Riggs) and Arthur Leipold. Doris married Paul Duane Deputy on July 9, 1949. Together they enjoyed 47 years before his passing on January 20, 1996.

Doris loved to cook and enjoyed 25 years as a cook at Mt. Carmel High School. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was always ready for a game of cards. Doris was a 50-plus year member of First Christian Church in Mt. Carmel. She was also a 50-plus year member of Eastern Star and the Red Hat Ladies.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Diana (Frank) Ross, Debby (Tony) Groover, Deana (Gary) Stewart, and Darla (Randy) Brooke; grandchildren, Sue Ann (Scott) Highland, Frank Ross (David Slade), Stephen Ross, Erich Martin, Tom (Cassie) Brooke, Lindsey (Chris) Chew, Rachel (Craig) Campbell, Wes (Bailey) Brooke, and Brian Groover; great-grandchildren, Darryn, Danny, and Alexis Highland, Lexi, Keira, Lily, and Charlotte Brooke, Kendall Brooke, Mason Slade-Ross, Denny and Ellie Campbell, and Myles Chew; and several great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Janice Chandler, JoAnn Deputy, and Betty Deputy along with several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Duane, her parents, Jessie and Arthur Leipold, brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Iris Leipold, and niece Jonel Leipold Neising. She is also preceded in death by her in-laws, Cliff & Mary Jo Deputy, Donna & Orville Neihouse, Mary & Dorris Cromer, Larry Chandler, Bob Deputy, Harold Deputy, and nephews Mike Deputy, Marty Deputy, and Roger Morton.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at the chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 15, 2025.

Burial will follow the service at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
