Delphia (Del) Mae McCormick, 89, of Grayville, IL passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at her home in Grayville surrounded by her loving family.
Per Delphia’s wishes, she will be cremated, and no formal service will be held
Delphia was born on September 6, 1935, in Grayville, IL to Ernest C. McKenzie and Ida M. (Mobley) McKenzie. She was born at home and delivered by her grandmother. She weighed 2 pounds, 2 ounces. Her mother kept her warm by putting her in a shoe box in the coal oven. She wore her dad’s handkerchiefs as a diaper and was not expected to live.
She spent most of her life caring for others as a home healthcare worker. She loved flowers and enjoyed being outside.
Delphia is survived by her 3 children: Sharon (James) Brendel, Rick A. McCormick, and Trina G. Robertson; 6 grandchildren: Sherry Brendel, Anthony (Brittany) Hoefling, Amanda Mofield, Krista McCormick, Amber McCormick, and Logan McCormick; 15 great-grandchildren: Brandon, Blaine, Braelyn, Landon, Saraphina, Malaya, Aleigha, Elijah, Jeremiah, Ayla, Kameron, Chace, Zander, Ellie, and one on the way; 1 sister and best friend, Zelma O’Neil; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Clyde (Jack), William, and Ezra (Earl) McKenzie; 2 granddaughters, Megan M. McCormick and Sarah L. Robertson; 1 grandson, Zachary (Zach) Robertson; and 1 great-grandson, DeAndre McCormick.
