Our beloved mother, Colene White, 91, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2020. She was born March 27, 1929, near Harrisburg, Illinois. Colene was the daughter of Edgar and Velma (Miller) Legai.
Colene loved learning. She was advanced two grades in grade school, graduated at 16 from Harrisburg High School and attended two years at Southern Illinois University.
On November 8, 1946, Colene married James I. White at the Ledford Baptist Church in Ledford, Illinois.
Jim and Colene ran Your Flower Shop in Mt. Carmel for 65 years. During that time, Colene attained membership in the prestigious Institute of Floral Designers, the American Academy of Floriculture and the Professional Floral Communicators International. For several years Colene was a commentator for the American Floral Services, Inc. in the states and Mexico.
Colene was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Carmel and Wabash Career Women.
Jim and Colene retired from floristry at the end of 2012 and moved near their daughter Aleta Griffin in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Colene is survived by her daughter Aleta Griffin, husband Jim Griffin and sons Shawn and Scott, and her son Jimmy White, wife Debbie White and daughter Stephanie Stevens, husband Joey Stevens and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Aline Thompson and husband James I. White.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2020, at Short Funeral Home, 527 N Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation is noon until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2020.
