Rosemary F. Summers

October 1, 1923 ~ November 7, 2017 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Rosemary F. Summers (nee Dunkel), 94, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana after enjoying visits from numerous family members.

On October 1, 1923, Rosemary was born the seventh child to Joseph and Matilda (Wirth) Dunkel.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella.  Rosemary married Paul Summers January 17, 1944, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, and was married for 70 years until Paul’s death in 2014.  Rosemary was a Western Union telegraph deliverer during WWII.  She and Paul co-owned Wabash Electric Company for many years.

Rosemary was a stained glass artist, loved gardening, was an avid reader and enjoyed the friendship of her pinochle and bridge clubs.  She and her husband loved to ballroom dance and square dance and cherished the many friendships they made in their dance groups.   They spent fifteen years in Florida and traveled by RV from coast to coast hitting 48 states.  Most treasured by Rosemary was her family.  They had a long standing tradition of playing cards every Saturday night and twenty-five years of annual Summers’ camp outs.

Left to cherish Rosemary’s memory is her children John and Shirley Summers, Ron and Nancy Summers, Bob and Pat Summers, Mary Summers and Nancy and Joe Hummert; grandchildren John F. (Beth) Summers, Jerry (Dana) Summers, Ryan (Stacy) Summers, Jana Summers, Steven (Kisha) Summers, Amanda (Scott) Snow, Shawn Summers, Mindy (Chris) Parker, Mike (Tasha) Baker, Jacob Glauber and Tom (Christy) Glauber; great-grandchildren Cody, Zach, Alex, Erin, Aiden, Rawley, Zayne, Amelia and Aiden; sister in law Avis Summers; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Matilda (Wirth) Dunkel, husband Paul Summers, daughter Barbie Summers, son Bill and his wife Mindy Summers, brothers Leo, Fred and Joseph Dunkel, sisters Eleanor Peters, Hilda Gher and Irene Peters.
