Robert L. Long, 88, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018, at Oakview Heights Continuous Care and Rehab surrounded by family.
He was born February 18, 1930, to Wilbur E. and Mabel I. (Beeman) Long in Whiten, Iowa. He married Ramona E. Miller in Hawkinsville, Georgia, on January 22, 1955. She preceded him in death January 28, 1989. He married Donna K. Cullivan on March 9, 1991 in Mt. Carmel. She survives.
Robert served his country as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He was initially stationed in Germany and served in the Korean War. Upon returning from the service he worked as a horse trainer and driver. He worked as construction supervisor for, and, retired from General Telephone. He also did cross country truck driving and grounds maintenance for Anderson Bros. Oil. He was a lifetime member of VFW and American Legion.
Robert is survived by his wife, Donna; daughter, Candice (Larry) Bradshaw of Pontiac, IL; three sons, Robert T. Long of Peoria, IL, Scott (Kim) Long of Robinson, IL, Layne E. (Sarah) Long of Mt. Carmel; brother, Lynn (Donna) Long; grandchildren, Shawn (Jamia) Long, Gloria (Keith) Reed, Ryan Bradshaw, Carissa Bradshaw, Jalyne Long, Nick Wampler; great grandchildren, Avery and Larkin Long; step children, Zeb (Nancy) Sutton of Mt. Carmel, Vincent ( Vickie) Sutton of Mt. Carmel, Donnie Sutton of Mt. Carmel, Greg (Terri) Sutton of Olney, IL; twelve step grandchildren; and 5 step great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Ramona; parents; brother, Dean Long and step son Delbert Sutton.
Per Robert’s wishes, he will be cremated. No service is planned.
