Pluma V. Litherland

Pluma V. Litherland, 95, of West Salem, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at her residence.

She was born December 2, 1921, in Wabash County, Illinois, the daughter of Dewey and Grace (Byram) Smith.  On March 19, 1941, Pluma married Loren Melvin Litherland in Allendale, Illinois.  He passed away August 3, 1997.

Pluma was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in West Salem, Illinois.  She co-owned and worked on the family farm.

Left to treasure her memory are children Marilyn Kay Mason of Albion, Illinois, Patricia Ann Mitchell and her husband Bill of Champaign, Illinois, and Shirley Jean Watkins of  Nixa, Missouri; five grandchildren, Melinda (Mike) Clark, Tracy (Joni) Watkins, Beth (Jeff) Buttitta, Kelly Watkins and Amy (Dax) Fuiten; five great-grandchildren, Casey (Joe) Hillenbrand, Micheal Clark, Olivia Buttitta, Drew Fuiten and Noah Buttitta; two  step-great-grandchildren, Haley (Crystal) Gatewood and Chelsea (Jonathan) Fury; two great great-grandchildren, Evan and Emilia Jo Hillenbrand; four step great-great-grandchildren, Walker and Kinsley Fury and Isaac and Adele Gatewood;  two siblings, Lowell Earl Smith of West Salem, Illinois, and Lela Pearl Williams of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. 

Pluma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two son-in-laws, Bob Mason and Larry Watkins; grandson, Marc Mason; and brothers, Russell Lee Smith, Dewey Smith, Jr. and Tommy Smith.

The funeral service for Pluma will be held Friday, August 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Zion United Methodist Church, 207 Jack Allen Drive, West Salem, Illinois.  Burial will immediately follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery, 1827 College Drive, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Visitation will be at the church on Thursday, August 3, 2017, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.   

Memorials may be made in Pluma’s memory to Zion United Methodist Church.  Envelopes will be available at the church and at Short Funeral Home.
