James Trapp Obituary

James Trapp, 92, of Dunnellon, Florida, formerly of Mt. Carmel passed away Thursday, February 28, 2019 at his son’s residence in Ohio.

 

James was born the fifth child of the late Peter and Minnie (Peter) Trapp on May 18, 1926 in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. James graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1944.  He married Theresa Bernadette Willett on June 5, 1945 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel.  They enjoyed fifty-two years of marriage before her passing on May 11, 1998. 

 

After graduating from high school, he joined the U. S. Army, serving until 1946.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.  In his early years he worked on his family farm and after serving in the military he worked in store management and merchandising with S.S. Kresge Co., that later became K-Mart.  During his years in Florida, he was an active member of St. John the Baptist parish. An avid hobbyist and gardener, he loved working in his yard.  He and his family enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and other countries over the years.  

 

James was the loving father of Gary, Michael (Karen), Jacinta (Alan) Bushong, Gregory (Pam), and Jay (Karen); beloved granddad of nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and, loved brother of Helen Schulte and Delores Batcke.

 

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Minnie; wife Bernadette; siblings Mary Catherine Decker, John, Paul and Celeste Baker.

 

The rosary will be said, followed by Memorial Mass on Saturday, March 9, 2019 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 125 W. 5th Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mt. Carmel.

           

In lieu of flowers, James requested gifts be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or School, or to Unity Hospice in St. Louis, MO or any local Hospice.  Envelopes will be available at the church and at Short Funeral Home.
