Esther A. Smith

Esther A. Smith, 93, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018, at Wabash General Hospital.

She was born March 11, 1924, the daughter of Peter C. and Flora (Zimmer) Smith in Friendsville, Illinois.  Esther was a graduate of Mt. Carmel High School and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.   She worked as a CNA at the nursing home.

Left to cherish Esther’s memory is a sister Hazel R. Davis of Titusville, Florida; and several nieces and nephews Anne L. Vogel, Bill Deffendall, Shirley J. Westerfield, Gary Smith, Mike Smith, Nona Ravellette, Dora Glenn and Karen Breen.

Preceding her in death were her parents and siblings William, Fred, Pete Jr. and Paul Smith, Florena Johns, Mary Deffendall Cutter and Lucille Smith.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s School.  Envelopes will be available at the church and at Short Funeral Home.
