Elmer Leo Seaton, 80, of Mt. Camel, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at his residence.
He was born March 25, 1937, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, the son of Elmer Michael and Mina Dorothy (McClane) Seaton. On September 18, 1959, he married Betty Lou Deal in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. She preceded him in death March 30, 2012 after 52 years of marriage.
Leo was a lifelong resident of Mt. Carmel and was a member of Parkview Christian Church. For 42 years he worked at Snap-On Tools. Leo enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and family. His great-grandchildren affectionately called him “Big PaPaw.”
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Richard (Cheri) Seaton of Evansville, Indiana and Mark (Tammy) Seaton of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; grandchildren, Logan (Brittany) Seaton, Cory (Jaci Phelps) Seaton, Amber (Wayne) Hammel, Amanda (Josh Howard) Seaton; great-grandchildren, Brynlee and Brookelyn Hammel, Wyatt Seaton, Hank Seaton. He was anxiously awaiting the arrival of two great-granddaughters Hallie Seaton and Brystal Hammel. He is also survived by siblings Clayton Seaton of Allendale, Shirley Glenn and Evelyn (Larry) Vickers of Mt. Carmel; sister-in-laws Joyce (Jerry) Leister, Helen Seaton, Frankie Seaton; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, son, Melvin; and siblings Cedric, Oma, Robert and Nova; brother-in-law Frank Glenn; and sister-in-laws, Gladys and Janet.
The visitation for Elmer Leo Seaton will be Monday, April 10, 2017 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Funeral and burial will follow Monday, April 10, 2017 at 1 p.m. Leo will be buried next to his wife at Highland Memorial Cemetery, following service.
Family request causal dress for the visitation and service.
