David Michael McGuire

David Michael McGuire, 59, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2019, at his home in Keensburg, Illinois, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born September 16, 1960, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, the youngest of six children to Ida and Joe McGuire, who preceded him in death.  David spent his younger years growing up in Mt. Carmel, which he always considered home until the family moved to Midland, Texas.  He graduated from Robert Lee High in 1978.

In 1980, while visiting friends in Mt. Carmel, he was in a car accident that left him paralyzed.  Having great strength and determination, he went on to play wheelchair basketball for a team sponsored by the San Antonio Spurs from 1993 to 1999.  His team flew all over the United States playing and winning games.  He worked most of his life on the computer as a security officer.  David was forced to retire due to health issues.  He never complained or felt sorry for himself and lived life to the fullest.  For all that knew him, he was a true inspiration.  He will be greatly missed by his family and many caring friends who surrounded him when he needed them the most.  David was known by all for his quick wit and sense of humor.

David is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Teresa (Terry) and Terry Tice, his sister, Kathy McGuire and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, Phillip and Scott McGuire, his sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Bob Johnson.

The funeral service for David will be Saturday, November 16, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.  Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon until the time of service.  Burial will immediately follow the funeral service at Antioch Cemetery.
