Cora E. (Schwartz) Case

Cora E. Case, 104, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Oakview Heights Continuous Care surrounded by her family.

Cora was born August 21, 1912 in Lawrence County, Illinois, the daughter of Marce and Mae (Perrott) Schwartz.  She married Harlen Gerrish and he preceded her in death in 1948.  Cora later married B. Floyd Case and he passed away in 1989.

She attended Berryville Christian Church.  Cora worked for Coca Cola Bottling Company in Mt. Carmel for several years and the Borden Cheese Factory in VanWert, Ohio.  She was very outgoing and never met a stranger.  Cora was active at the Senior Citizens Center and loved crafting and gardening. 

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Richard Harlen Gerrish and his wife Anne  of Greenacres, Florida; brother, Raymond Schwartz of Murray, Kentucky; grandchildren, Diana Kay Collins and husband Vaughn, Deborah Mae Cardwell, Becky J. Majors, Carol L. Arnold and husband Martin; Richard Perry, Jr. and his wife Karissa, Cynthia S. Gaff and her husband Ronald, Scot A. Gerrish and his wife Sandy; 15 great grandchildren, 23 great great grandchildren and 3 great great great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Priscilla Perry; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, Harlen Gerrish and B. Floyd Case; brother, Elmer Schwartz and daughter, Ruth Ellen Perry.

The funeral for Cora will be Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois with burial at Highland Memorial Cemetery. 

A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017, from 12:00 noon until the time of service at 2:00 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Oakview Heights Continuous Care Activity Fund.  Envelopes will be available at Short’s.
