Welcome to the memorial page for

Phyllis Lee (Anthis) Crow

December 16, 1919 ~ September 22, 2015 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Phyllis Lee (Anthis) Crow, 95, of Mt. Carmel, IL, went home to be with the Lord with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Oakview Heights Continuous Care in Mt. Carmel.

She was born on Tuesday, December 16, 1919, in Keensburg, IL, the daughter of the late Marion and Della (Williams) Anthis.

Phyllis graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1937.  She later attended Wabash Valley College, and after rearing her children, she returned to school and received her LPN License in 1970 and began working in Princeton, IN, in the nursing home industry.  Earlier in life, she spent many years working at Snap-On Tools where she met her husband, Cecil O. Crow, former Plant Superintendent, also of Mt. Carmel.  They were married for sixty years before his death in March of 2000.

Phyllis was always on the go and loved to travel.  She had visited all fifty of the United States and many overseas countries such as Spain, Ireland, Australia, the Netherlands and Nova Scotia to name a few.  She never met a stranger and was able to converse with anyone who happened to cross her path.  She loved to play cards with her friends, attend senior exercise class each day, and she could be seen early each morning walking her two dachshunds, Maxie and Hubie, down Park Road and around the college.  Phyllis was an avid golfer and bowler, often winning trophies along with her husband.  She loved to laugh and was always entertaining her children and grandchildren by whistling and singing made-up songs while she cooked.  Cooking was one of her joys in life and through the years, she amassed a large collection of cookbooks.  She could be found every Saturday preparing lunch at the Senior Citizen Center in Mt. Carmel.

Phyllis often hosted various ladies groups of Wabash County in her home as she was an active member of the Friendsville Household Science Club, Tuesday Household Science, Wabash Co. Hospital Auxiliary, VFW, Eagles and Moose Auxiliary, Wabash Co. Historical Society and the American Legion Auxiliary. Phyllis was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church, Mt. Carmel, IL.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Linda L. Sigler of Monticello, IL, granddaughters, Nicole Sigler of Monticello, Kim Minniear of Mt. Carmel, Jill (Minniear) Gerwin of Scottsburg, IN, grandsons, Kyle Sigler of Farmer City, IL and Lt. Col. Harry E. Minniear (USAF Ret.) of Terre Haute, IN, son-in-law, Jerry W. White of Mt. Carmel, niece, Etta Rosignal of Mt. Carmel, nephew, David Crow of Mt. Carmel, and several great and great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, daughter, Peg L. White, son, Michael Nick Crow, husband, Cecil O. Crow, brothers, Gordan (Andy) Anthis and John W. Anthis, sister, Eloise Rigg, nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was a joy and a blessing to many and will be sadly missed.  A celebration of her life will take place Thursday, September 24, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home.  Friends and family may gather from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, IL.  A graveside service will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
