Norman L Neel

Norman L. Neel, 78, departed this earthly life, Monday, February 29, 2016.  He leaped into heaven on Leap Day!

          Norman was born August 12, 1937, to Mercedes (Helm) and Wilsie “Jake” Neel in Whitesville, Kentucky.  He married Sue Ewald on December 27, 1969.  Norman proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.

          He worked as a supervisor at Champion Labs for 37 years.  Norman was an avid golfer and UK basketball fan.  He even had his golf cart painted Kentucky blue!  Norman enjoyed watching Cardinal baseball.  Most of all, he loved his daughters and grandchildren.

          Norman is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sue, daughters Billie and her husband Henry Ortiz, Toni and her husband Sean Ashley, Joni and her husband Rex Gill; grandchildren Tawny Ortiz, Josef Gill, Elijah Gill, Mercides Gill and Luke Ashley; nieces and nephews, and, beloved Kentucky cousins.

 Preceding him in death were his parents, sister, Evelene Pierson, first wife, Saundra Feldman and two infant daughters.

          Family and friends may call Saturday, March 12, 2016, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois, with the memorial service beginning immediately after at 3:00 p.m.  Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.  Per Norman’s wishes, he will be cremated.

          Norman was an avid animal lover, especially cats--who adored him.  Therefore, memorial contributions can be made to the Wabash County Animal Shelter Buddies.
