Melvin Dale Peach

Melvin Dale Peach, 90, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Oakview Heights Continous Care surrounded by family.

He was born January 1, 1927, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, the son of Elza C. and Dessie (Lowe) Peach.  On June 29, 1947, he married Lois Marie Dixon who preceded him in death.

Melvin proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.  He was a member of Keensburg Christian Church.  Melvin worked for AMOCO, retiring after many years of service.  He became the Animal Control Officer of Wabash County and retired after working many years in that capacity.  Melvin was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Keensburg Fire Department, Keensburg Ruritan Club and was a Democrat Precinct Committeeman for 40 years.

Left to cherish his memory are his children:  Vicki and husband Keith Hocking, Lanny and his wife Susan Peach, Gene and his wife Kay Peach, and Kathy and her husband Shane Fooks; grandchildren: Kristi Wright, Brad Hocking, John Peach, Michael Peach, Josh Peach, Mathew Peach, Melissa Yoder, Chastity McDaniel, Kelly Birrell and Kasara Coston; 28 great-grandchildren; and siblings: Minnie Yarbor Dossett and Delores Peavler.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; siblings, Frank, Jesse, Hershel and Chester Peach, Mildred Turner and Claude Peach.

 Funeral services will take place Thursday, May 11, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.  Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery, 1827 College Drive, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.

Friends may call for visitation Wednesday, May 10, 2017, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions Keensburg Christian Church or Mt. Carmel Honor Guard.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
