Leon Franklin Leeper

         Leon Franklin Leeper, Jr., 62, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at his residence surrounded by his family.

          He was born Monday, January 18, 1954, the son of Leon Franklin Roy and Judy Marie (Crick) Leeper in Knoxville, Tennessee. 

         Leon joined the U.S. Army in May of 1972.  He received a National Defense Service Medal and a Sharpshooter Badge M-16 before he was honorably discharged in May of 1978.  On January 2, 1982, Leon married Susan Peterson at the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. 

         Leon was a self-employed painter until health issues required him to retire.   He enjoyed reading and especially loved grilling for his family.  He was a member of VFW.

          Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Susan; children, Andrew E. and wife Jennifer M. Leeper, Craig A. Leeper and Tyler Lee Baggett; siblings, Tim (Shelly) Leeper, Randy (Sandra) Leeper and Kathy (John) McMurry; and five grandchildren he adored and called him Papaw.

          Preceding him in death were his parents.

          Per his wishes he will be cremated.  There was a private family viewing.
