Fred Howard Gidcumb

Fred Howard Gidcumb, 82, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

 

            He was born Tuesday, August, 22, 1933, in Norris City, Illinois, the son of Thomas Martin and Rebecca Johanna (Forrester) Gidcumb.  On Saturday, September 20, 1952, he married Mary Belle Case in Norris City, Illinois.  She preceded him in death February 6, 1991.  He later married Nancy Joan Caldemeyer in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, on January 18, 1992.

 

            Fred was a member of Dayspring Community Church.  He worked for Dersch Energies as a Tank Truck Driver for 34 years.  Fred was known for his loving handshakes followed by pieces of peppermint candy, he so loved to pass out.    Gardening was a passion of Fred’s.  He would plant acres and acres of vegetables.  Fred had a desire to share the gospel and witness to everyone.  His favorite scripture was Romans10:8-11.

 

            Left to cherish his memories is his wife of 24 years, Nancy; children, Tamara and husband Michael Brown of Princeton, Indiana, Michael Fred and wife Alisa Gidcumb of Mt. Carmel, James D. and wife Becky Gidcumb of Princeton, Indiana, and son-in-law David Ridgley; grandchildren,  Christopher, Aimee Lee, Shawn, Beth, Patrick, Jennifer, Megan, Lisa Marie, Chelsea, Zachary and Jacob; seventeen greatgrandchildren; siblings, Phyllis and husband Jim Edwards of  Tennessee, Doris Tolley of Mt. Carmel, Donnie and wife Rivien Gidcumb of Eddyville, Illinois, and Dorothy and husband Dick Banks of Newburgh, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

 

            Preceding him in death was his parents, first wife Mary Belle, children, Stephen Gidcumb and Karen Ridgley, and siblings, Wilma, Wanda, Dale, Noble, Veda and George.

 

            Visitation will be Saturday, July 2, 2016, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois  62863. The Funeral service will be conducted Sunday, July 3, 2016, at 3:30 p.m. also in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery next to his first wife.

 

            Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Dayspring Community Church for the mission trip to South Dakota, 120 N. Main Street, Owensville, Indiana  47665.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
