Frances Marie (Herbst) Beard

Frances Marie Beard, 89, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, November 9, 2015, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

          Marie was born Tuesday, May 4, 1926, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Pearl (Gorman) Herbst.  She graduated from DePaul School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri, with an RN degree.  Marie married Francis L. Beard, Jr. in Mt. Carmel, Illinois August 21, 1955.  He preceded her in death September 9, 2009.  They enjoyed 54 years of marriage.

          Left to cherish her memories are her children Elisa Suiter of Birmingham, Alabama, Ellen and husband Thomas Schaad of Venice, Florida, Leslie and husband Rick Bohr of Nashville, Tennessee and Bradley and wife Robin Beard of Mt. Carmel; grandchildren Joshua Schaad, Lyndsay Beard, Jillian Beard, Ricky Bohr, Kayley Bohr, Sean Beam, Andrea Beam and Kristen Beam; great-grandchildren Aubrey Beam, Kinzley Beam and Khloe Beam; and caregiver Ana Shelby.

          Preceding Marie in death were her parents, husband, infant son Francis Gregory Beard and two brothers Bud and John Herbst.

          Visitation will be Thursday, November 12, 2015, from noon until 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m., both in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.  Burial will follow at  Highland Memorial Cemetery, 1827 College Drive. 

          Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Wabash General Foundation, 1418 College Drive, Mt. Carmel, Illinois  62863.  Envelopes will be available at Short Funeral Home.
