Florence A. Carey, 91, of Mt. Carmel, IL passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Oakview Heights Continuous Care and Rehab Center.
She was born on Wednesday, January 23, 1924 in Chicago, IL; the daughter of Stephen and Anna (Janiak) Pawlowski. Florence married Albert J. Carey on Saturday, September 1, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois; he preceded her in death on Wednesday, April 10, 2013. Together they had sixty seven and half years together and seven children.
Florence was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a faithful volunteer at the school and was very involved with Prayer Partners.
She had a passion for reading and was an adult reading tutor for several years helping those who came to her. In her younger years Florence enjoyed gardening. She was in girl scouts as a child and in her later years became a Girl Scout leader. She loved her children and will always be remembered as Gramma to her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memories are three daughters, Diane Marie (Mike) Sanders of Long Beach, California, Patricia Ann (Steve) Dillard of Mount Carmel, Illinois, Marilyn Joyce (Todd) Critcheloe of Mount Carmel, Illinois; four sons, Leroy Albert Carey of Collinsville, Oklahoma, George Alan (Susan) Carey of Brownsburg, Indiana, Paul Jeffrey (Cathy) Carey of Tucson, Arizona, James Stephen Carey of Tucson, Arizona; eighteen grandchildren, and forty-one great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and granddaughter, Stephanie Renee Critcheloe; two brothers; and three sisters.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday September 28, 2015at the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 North Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel with a Rosary Service conducted at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 5th Street, Mt. Carmel, with burial following the service at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Mt. Carmel.
