Bonnie M Schroeder Smith

Bonnie Smith, 90, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at Good Samaritan Home & Rehabilitation Center in Oakland City, Indiana.

She was born May 5, 1927, at Berryville, Illinois, the daughter of Lloyd A. and Jennie O. (George) Griggs.  Bonnie was a member of the Mt. Carmel High School graduating Class of 1944.  She was married to John C. Schroeder and after his death she married Jack Smith who also preceded her in death. 

Bonnie grew up on the farm and spoke fondly of her memories there.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She loved reading, the outdoors, gardening, pets and watching wildlife.  Bonnie was a long time member of Parkview Christian Church.  She served as church secretary for many years and taught Sunday school.  She worked for the family business and several businesses in the area as secretary and bookkeeper. 

Left to cherish Bonnie’s memory are her children Karen S. Smith and her husband Keith of Olney, Illinois, Kathryn L. Dersch of Mt. Carmel, Kaye E. Bloehs and husband Gary of Westfield, Indiana, and, Kelly J. Schroeder and wife Lisa of Mt. Carmel; grandchildren Debbie (Leo) Hardig, Misty (Scott) Scherer, Jennie (Jeff) Ingold, Tammy (Chris) Dowdy, Penny (Mark) Luzadder, Jaimie (Nick) Alemond, Jared (Angela) Bloehs, Joni (Jake) Callis, John,  David, Mary and Anne Schroeder; great-grandchildren Jonah and Sydney Scherer, Aiden Hardig, Callie and Carter Ingold, Olivia, Emma, Elijah Luzadder, Chase Dowdy, Abraham, Amayah, and Asher Alemond and Levi Callis; and a sister Patsy Weagel of Michigan.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and husbands.

Visitation for Bonnie will be Sunday, November 5, 2017, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street with funeral services immediately following at 2:00 p.m. with burial at Antioch Cemetery.
