Betty Dean Obituary

Our loving Angel mother, Betty Marie (Barr) Dean, passed away Monday, March 19, 2018, and at this time she is with our Heavenly Father and her family in Heaven; and we know that she is resting in peace.

When our father Harold B. Dean, Sr. passed away at the age of 32 in 1958, she was lost.  However, with four children to raise, she learned to drive, received her GED and some college.  She worked as a school cook, dental assistant, Phlebotomist and did ironing for extra money.  She always managed to keep us fed, clothed and under roof.  It was not easy for her at all.

She was helped by her husband’s family (the Deans, which was greatly needed; as well as the Warren/Eileen Barr Family).  Also helping was her mother Ethel Barr.

It was the small things that she did that we all remember and loved. She attended as many baseball, football and basketball games as possible.  She took us to church every Sunday at the First Christian Church in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, was involved in school and church activities when we were also involved and taking us on short trips for family picnics, shopping in Evansville and baseball games.

We always had great Christmas’s with gifts beyond her ability to pay (layaway was the only way).  Our birthdays were very special as well.  She made homemade chocolate or banana cakes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Ethel Barr; husband, Harold B. Dean, Sr.; son, Myron L. Dean; and brothers Jim Barr and Harley Barr (Korean War hero).

She is survived by her children, Harold B. Dean, Jr. and his wife Vanetta of Mahomet, Illinois, Larry W. Dean and his wife Doreen of Lakewood Ranch, Florida, and, Patsy R. (Dean) Marcotte and her husband Ken of Momence, Illinois; her grandchildren, Julie Bowen, Deanna (Dee) Summers, Shannon Cupp, Christopher Dean, Amy Lybarger, Justin Dean, Andrew Mullins, Jennifer Swiontek, Shannon, Philip, Jennifer and Joseph Horton, Christin Hoffner and Caitlyn Dundas; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

There will be no visitation.  A private graveside service will be held at the Oaklawn Cemetery in St. Francisville, Illinois.

No flowers please, just your prayers, thank you.
